Karuna meets PM, downplays DMK-Cong rift

T amil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday, downplaying rumours of a rift between the two parties. "Yesterday I could not meet the PM because of previous engagement. We sought more fund from Centre for flood-affected areas," said the DMK chief on Monday after his meeting with the prime minister.......

Talks between AIADMK and Left parties inconclusive

The seat-sharing talks between the AIADMK and the two Left parties remain inconclusive, with the Left leadership feeling that the offer made by AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa is far below their expectations. The AIADMK has come forward to offer 11 seats to the CPI(M) and nine to the CPI, according to sources in the Left parties.........

Awards for federations, SHGs


Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday presented the Manimekalai awards to five panchayat-level federations (PLFs) and 10 self-help groups (SHGs) in recognition of their contribution to the movement to empower rural women.  The five award-winning federations, Chettipulam PLF in Nagapattinam district; Vadaputhupatti PLF in Theni district; Swamithoppu PLF in Kaniyakumari; Velur PLF in Pudukottai and Periyapillaivalasai PLF in Tirunelveli district were presented a cash award of Rs. 3 lakh each...........
